Vacation Home Description:
description:Oceanfront Haycock Harbor Cottage - Whimsea is the outermost cottage on Haycock Harbor in Trescott, Washington County. (The nearest post office is in Lubec, the most eastern town in the USA.). It is located at the end of a 1.5-mile long gravel road on ten wooded acres with 400' ocean frontage. There are no visible neighbors. Our custom is to rent only for four weeks in August each summer--we love to be there too! Whimsea, set high on the rocky coast, commands awesome views of open ocean to the south and to the west up the harbor affording wonderful sunsets. From the loft, one can see Grand Manan and awake to glorious Downeast sunrises. There are no lights other than the distant Machias Seal Island Lighthouse to interfere with the night sky. The cottage has a great room with fireplace and a fully founded kitchen at the eastern end. Above the great room is a spacious loft with a queen-size bed. There is a second large room with a queen hide-a-bed and two cot-size chest beds. A washer and dryer are in the hall between the two rooms. The bath has both a large shower and a footed tub. The Bold Coast is rural and will be sure to delight those who enjoy walking/hiking, bird watching, reading, star gazing...the quiet things. Many environmental non-profits--the Nature Conservency, Land for Maine Future and the Quoddy Regional Land Trust have developed and maintain excellent trails. Nearby are: East and West Quoddy Lighthouses, Cobscook Bay, Moosehorn Refuge, Campobello Island with FDR's summer home and a scenic nine hole golf course. Whale watching cruises are available. The Summer Keys concert series is extraordinary. Good restaurants can be found in Machias, East Machias and Lubec. A lobstering family lives within two miles of the cottage and will gladly provide them really fresh! Tide Mill Farm markets organic veggies on Sunday morning in Lubec.;

Vacation Home Description:
description:The six cottages, which can't be seen one from another, are located along approximately 1/2 mile of shoreline on the eastern shore of the lake. The family owns 2 miles of shorefront, so there is great privacy. The lake is 5 miles long and 2 miles wide and is spring fed. The sun sets across the lake, so the sunsets are spectacular, especially when you're out in a canoe, and the lake surface is a sheet of gold and magenta. Down the lake a bit from the last cottage is an eagle's nest, where a pair of bald eagles raised two chicks last summer. You can view the nest easily from a canoe and often eagles are seen soaring over the lake, or perched in tall pine trees on the shore. There are several families of loons that summer on Boyden Lake and these large birds with their haunting and eerie calls are seen daily in the waters off the cottages. Other birds sighted in our woods are woodpeckers, including the pileated, owls, hawks, kingfishers and hummingbirds in the flower gardens. Moose, deer, raccoons and rabbits are among the many animals that are observed in the area. If you enjoy hiking, biking and kayaking there are many places to visit, including Shackford Head State Park in Eastport, the Moosehead Natl. Wildlife Refuge near Calais, Gleason's Point Park and the Cobscook Bay State Park. A local outfitter rents out kayaks, canoes and bicycles and also takes out parties on eco-tours and fishing trips in Cobscook Bay. From Eastport, one can go deep-sea fishing and whale-watching. The Sylvina Beal, a two-masted sailing vessel takes groups out on sight-seeing and sunset cruises and longer whale-watching trips. You can fish for mackerel off the Breakwater, walk along the sea wall and visit the Eastport Art Gallery and other shops along Water St. and have the best fish and chips dinner you've ever had at the Waco Diner. The Sardina Loca serves fine Mexican food and there are several other fine restaurants in the area. Visit Raye's Mustard Mill and watch mustard being made in the only stone ground mill left in the U.S....;

Vacation Home Description:
description:Tide Watcher and Water's Edge: two elegant, fully-furnished vacation rentals on the waterfront in Eastport, Maine, America's easternmost city. We are by no means urban, however, and you can easily enjoy all aspects of the walkable historic district, from the tugboats and the lobster, scallop, and fishing vessels that work the waters of Passamaquoddy Bay, to the intricate brickwork of the Frontier National Bank (now the police station) and the Peavey Memorial Library. Twenty-nine of Water Street's buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places, most of them dating from the rebuilding boom that took place after a fire destroyed the downtown in October of 1886. Eastport has a thriving community of artists who exhibit their work in several galleries on Water Street in addition to receiving visitors in their studios. The Tides Institute and Museum of Art, newly-refurbished this spring, is building a collection of work by historic local artists on both sides of the border in the Downeast and Maritime region, as well as an art reference library. The breathtaking views of nearby Canadian islands -- Campobello Island and Deer Island -- will inspire even non-painters. Seasonal car ferries (late-June to early-September) make it easy to visit these Canadian islands, indeed all of the Quoddy Loop. You can go hiking on the trails of the Roosevelt-Campobello International Park, do some leisurely beachcombing on the beach at Herring Cove, Campobello Island, attend a Wednesday-night concert in Lubec, Maine, given by the professional musicians teaching at the internationally-recognized SummerKeys music program, stroll through the Downeast Heritage Museum in Calais to learn some of the culture and history of the area. Or how about going kayaking on the Bay or one of several nearby lakes, or relaxing aboard the 1911- vintage sailing schooner Sylvina W. Beal on a sunset or whale-watching cruise&#63, Nearby golf courses, art and antique shopping,and visiting with local residents all make for a memorable vacation exp...;
