Vacation Bed & Breakfast Description:
description:Located in the most spectacular setting on the rugged Mendocino Coast, The Harbor House Inn, a destination in itself, offers the finest in luxury lodging and distinctive Seaside Dining. Surrounded by magnificent seaside gardens, giant redwoods and the wild Pacific Ocean, the Inn provides the best that man and nature, in concert, have to offer. If architecture can define its heritage, The Harbor House Inn symbolizes the splendor and significance of the Redwood Empire in its finest era. Designed by renowned architect Louis Christian Mullgardt in the same vernacular as his famous 'Home of Redwood' built for the 1915 Pan-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco, the home is a Craftsman style treasure. Built in 1916 by the Goodyear Lumber Company, it had a multi-purpose existence. First as the home for chief executive of Goodyear's milling operation, which took place in Greenwood Cove below the house, and, secondly, as a showcase for the company's customer to witness firsthand the beauty and enduring qualities of redwood. The living room, or 'great room' (shown above), still in its original state, has an almost hallowed, cathedral presence as visitors are enveloped in the intricately crafted virgin redwood that clad the walls and vaulted ceiling. The now famous Mullgardt fireplace defines the center of the room. With spectacular views to the sea in the adjoining Seaside Dining room, the enchantment of this marriage of architecture and location is pervasive. Throughout the house the majesty of the era lives on with high ceilings, original light fixtures, and large windows facing the gardens and sea. Refurbished with luxury in mind, the antiques and furnishings preserve the dignity and character of this masterpiece.;

Vacation Bed & Breakfast Description:
description:Located in the charming village of Elk, this beach-front retreat is the essence of peace and tranquility. Sandi Wechsler, The Wine Trader People have increasingly become aware of the pristine and dramatic natural beauty of the Mendocino coastline. The scenic village of Elk (called Greenwood by the old-timers - the name it had in the days it was a lively lumber town) is perched in the middle of the romantic setting, and the Elk Cove Inn (established in 1968) commands some of the most spectacular views along the coast. Nestled in peaceful seclusion atop a bluff over-looking nearly a mile of beachfront, the Main House of the Inn was originally built in 1883 by the L.E. White Lumber Co. as an executive guest house and became one of the first Bed & Breakfast Inns on the Northern California Coast. Shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance, the historic village of Mendocino is just about 20 minutes north, and the fabulous Anderson Valley wineries and redwood forests are a short drive away. Accommodations have private bathrooms and include such personal touches as feather beds, down comforters, terry robes, exquisite linens, bath amenities (shampoo, conditioner, bath gels), fresh flowers, and comfortable rocking chairs. There's a flashlight to guide you for nighttime beach walks. There are even port and chocolates to enjoy before bedtime!

description:In 1916, when the Sandpiper House was built, Elk was a thriving mill town. The house was built on a rugged cliff above Greenwood Cove . During this era, the cove was a bustling harbor where schooners were loaded with redwood destined for San Francisco. In the late 1930s, the last mill was lost in a fire and the village of Elk became a quiet hamlet perched above the sea. The gray shingled house is surrounded by a perennial garden and a white picket fence. The rose arbor leads to a beautifully tended lawn, embraced by bountiful flower beds stretching out to the edge of the bluff. Garden chairs are strategically placed to capture the breathtaking ocean views . The garden path disappears over the bluff to a secluded private beach below. View our Virtual Tour;
